At the age of 18 he opened a store called "The People’s Place" in upstate New York. Then, seven years later it went bankrupt and Hilfiger left retail in pursuit of designing clothing. Tommy Hilfiger, Inc. was soon founded, and the company went public a year later.
Now the Hilfiger brand is one of the most recognizable labels in the world. Hilfiger took what started as men's jeans and sportswear, to a half-billion-dollar empire encompassing menswear, women's wear, children's wear, footwear, eyeglasses, fragrances, and home furnishings!
